Narrative Summary - August 2005
The average temperature for August 2005 was above normal, averaging 76.6ºF, 1.2º above normal (75.4ºF).
The warmest August (1967) averaged 81.5ºF; while the coolest (1964) averaged 69.8ºF. There were 22 days
during August with maximum temperatures >= 90ºF compared to an August normal of 17 days, and a record high
of 27 days for August in 1967 and 1986. Total days with maximum temperatures >= 90ºF (through August) is 53,
compared to a normal of 46 days. There were 7 days with maximum temperatures >= 100ºF compared to an
August normal of 5 days, and a record for August of 15 in 1967. There have been 16 days with maximum
temperatures >= 100ºF (through August), compared to a normal of 12 days. No daily temperature records were
established in August 2005.
Precipitation for August 2005 totaled 0.06 inch, 22% of normal (0.27 inch). The wettest August (1977)
received 1.36 inches; and the driest (1988 and earlier years) received no precipitation. Total precipitation for
2005 (through August) is 2.54 inches, 62% of normal (4.07 inches).
The average wind speed for August 2005 was 7.8 miles per hour (mph), which was nearly normal (7.9 mph).
The windiest August on record (1996) averaged 9.5 mph, while the August with the lightest winds (1956)

normal (73.7ºF). The warmest summer (1958) averaged 78.2ºF; while the coolest (1980) averaged 70.2ºF.
Precipitation for the summer season totaled 0.21 inch, 22% of normal (0.95 inch) and tied for the 3rd driest
summer season on record. The driest (1973) received 0.03 inch; while the wettest (1950) received 2.99 inches.
