Narrative Summary - April 2005
The average temperature for April 2005 was normal, averaging 53.6ºF, 0.1º above normal (53.5ºF). The
warmest April (1994) averaged 58.2ºF; while the coolest (1955) averaged 47.5ºF. The maximum temperature
of 85ºF on April 26 tied the highest temperature for that date which also occurred in 1992.
Precipitation for April 2005 totaled 0.26 inch, 59% of normal (0.44 inch). The wettest April (2003) received
2.23 inches; and the driest (1999 and earlier years) received only a trace. No snowfall was recorded during
April 2005, compared to a normal of a trace inch, and a maximum of 1.0 inch in 1982. Total precipitation for
2005 (through April) is 1.54 inches, 60% of normal (2.57 inches).
The average wind speed for April 2005 was 7.9 miles per hour (mph), 0.9 mph below normal (8.8 mph). The
windiest April on record (1972 and earlier years) averaged 11.1 mph, while the April with the lightest winds
(2004) averaged 7.2 mph. The peak gust for the month was 43 mph on April 1. The record wind gust for April
was 73 mph in 1972.
