Narrative Summary - June 2009

June 2009 was warmer than normal, averaging 71.5ºF, 2.2º above normal (69.3ºF). The warmest June
(1992) averaged 76.8ºF, while the coolest (1953) averaged 63.0ºF. There were 5 days in June with
maximum temperatures >= 90ºF compared to a June normal of 8. There were no days with maximum
temperatures >= 100ºF compared to a June normal of 1. There were no daily temperatures records
established during June 2009:




Precipitation for June 2009 totaled 0.16 inch, 39% of normal (0.41 inch). The wettest June (1950) 

received 2.92 inches, while the driest (2003 and earlier years) received only a trace.  Total precipitation 

for 2009 (through June) is 3.32 inches, 94% of normal (3.53 inches).  



The average wind speed for June 2009 was 9.5 miles per hour (mph), which was 0.4 mph above normal 

(9.1 mph).  The windiest June (1983 and 1949) averaged 10.7 mph, while the June with the lightest winds 

(1982) averaged 7.3 mph. The peak gust for June 2009 was 43 mph on June 17.  The record wind gust for 

June was 72 mph in 1957.
